When the Qur’an Guides the Law.

In a recent article (found here) on the formation of the recent Taliban regime in Afghanistan, a Taliban spokesman, Turabi, was recorded as saying

Everyone criticized us for the punishments in the stadium, but we have never said anything about their laws and their punishments… No one will tell us what our laws should be. We will follow Islam, and we will make our laws on the Quran.

The Taliban choosing to follow Islam, and make their laws on the Qur’an has a simple, if not devastating, potential outcome:

-amputations of limbs (Q. 5:38)
-death to ‘enemies of Islam’ (Q. 5:33)
-terror on non-Muslims (Q. 3:151; 8:12)
-sexual slavery of girls and women (Q. 4:3, 24-25; 23:6; 24:34; 70:30; 33:50)
-death to adulterers ()

World, we need to wake up!

We need to become familiar with the texts that every Islamic group who implements amputations, terror and slavery, use to support their actions

Once familiar with what happens when Islam has taken root in lands over the centuries, we can understand what is currently happening in our own lands, and in Muslim led lands.

The answer to finding out if the Taliban follows the Qur’an or not, is simple to discover - just read the Qur’an! Just read the early biographies of Muhammad. Seems ridiculous to have to say this, but how many policy makers have actually read the Qur’an and Muhammad’s early biographies?

Then ask the questions, what is it like living under Qur’anic law? Why do some Western pundits deny that the Taliban, Al-Shabab, and Boko Haram, are Islamic? Why do they ignore the verses that these groups quote? What kind of law is taught in the Qur’an?

Many Muslim friends are appalled at the Taliban, their cry that “they are not Islamic” no longer stands when similar groups keep rearing their head in every generation. If we love our Muslim friends, we need to face up to what their texts teach, and then lead them to a text that does not support Taliban style rule, a text of God that breaths life; the Bible.
